Mission Codename The Legends Protégé
Last year we featured a stunning Petite Sirah from Cast Wines. That superb wine caused a sensation among our Operatives. They wanted more, but we had sold out. Today, we have a juicy allocation of Cast Wines 2014 Grey Palm Vineyard Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. This is a decadent, fruit-driven Zin that you’ll flip over.
Winemaker Mike Gulyash has crafted a delicious masterpiece in today’s wonderful wine and we hope that you have a chance to partake of the magic. Mike has made wines for Jordan Estate where he was a protégé of legendary winemakers André Tchelistcheff and Rob Davis, then B. R. Cohn Winery, Merry Edwards, and Zichichi Family Winery.
This Zinfandel has a nice beautiful garnet core which transitions smoothly to a nice magenta lip. The nose suggests a yummy wine with both fresh and ripened fruit flavors, with aromas of quince, raspberry, plum fruit leather, spiced apple pie, and lavender. On the palate, a decadent, classic Dry Creek Zin - Tons of bramble, blackberry, currant, plum compote, black currant and some serious spice. The wine is extremely approachable and fruit-forward with easy-drinking tannin and acidity that leaves you ready for the next sip almost as soon as you swallow. Light up that grill and throw on shishkabobs stacked with bell pepper, sirloin, mushrooms, green onion, and zucchini. Don’t forget the quality olive oil!
Enjoy!!

Here’s what the wine press has to say:
92 Points - Michael De Loach - “From 110-year-old vines planted in the far North end of Dry Creek Valley, winemaker Mike Gulyash, previously of Zichichi Family Vineyard, a Zin specialist in the mold of A. Rafanelli, has created a classic age-worthy Zinfandel at once refined and effusive. The 2014 Grey Palm Vineyard effort is medium-deep garnet in color with a violet edge. It has an expansive nose of blackberries, light tobacco leaf, bramble and tamarind opening into full flavors of black stone fruit, cranberry, and dried cherry. A lingering finish of raspberry and walnut highlight a deft use of oak. Drink now to 2025.”
