Mission Codename Best Expression
With the warming weather, our fancy turns to thoughts of… Rosé, of course! And, gosh, have we got a real doozy for you, today. Our tasting panel went bonkers for today’s Pask Winery 2015 Kate Radburnd “Berry Burst” Rosé. This wine is a juicy, fruit-forward Rosé unlike any we’ve featured. Grab some while you can!
This rosé has an absolutely stunning color, with crystalline clarity and beautify ruby gem hue. True to the name, there is indeed a wonderful burst of fresh berry on the nose, with fruit-forward aromatics of raspberry and blueberry, complemented by tree fruit tones of pear and apple, with some bright kiwi shining through. On the palate, the tree fruit comes to the fore with apple and pear dominating, while loquat, lemon, and quince make an appearance as well. This wine does exactly what a rosé is supposed to do: It has just enough body to have a richer mouthfeel than a white wine, while still being refreshing since it has little tannin. Why not go with the theme and go with a treat of chilled berries drizzled with simple syrup?
Kate Radburnd has been making wines in Australia and New Zeland for more than 30 years. She’s won more awards and gold medals than nearly any other Aussie winemaker. Kate is now the co-owner and winemaker of Pask Winery in New Zealand, where she makes distinctive and very reasonably priced wines.
Of her winemaking, Kate says, “My job is to support the fruit the best way I can - not manipulate it - so the grapes can naturally express their true flavor.” Well, Kate, Mission: Accomplished! This is one juicy, delicious, fun wine.
