Happy Super Spy Sunday, dear Operative! Each Sunday we strive to bring you a really big discount on a really great wine. Today’s offering is the delectable Estella Blanca 2013 Reserve Zinfandel. This wine is a jammy, juicy Zin with plenty of character. This wine is robust and perfect for many pairing choices.

It’s an especially dark wine for a Zinfandel, with great color extraction and a garnet hue, leading up to a ruby lip. The nose speaks to a Sonoma Zinfandel through and through with big gingerbread, vanilla, molasses, hibiscus, and blackberry jam coming straight over the top. On the palate, the bouquet translates almost note for note with that gingerbread and vanilla making up the vanguard. There’s more distinct fruit there too with rhubarb, pomegranate, and black cherry joining the blackberry to great effect. The color was a good indication of what to expect from the body: It’s more robust with than your typical Zin, with a solid tannin profile standing up to the formidable fruit and alcohol. This wine would be killer served alongside a gourmet burger topped with sauteed mushrooms and onions on a Racer 5 bun.
