2017 "La Rosa" Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara Rosé
California: Santa Barbara County: Happy Canyon
Enjoy today’s Summer-Perfect Rosé with our very hearty recommendation.
Are you ready to fall in love with a Rosé? Today’s perfect for summer pink took our entire tasting panel by storm. Unanimously, we adore this delicious treat. Winemaker Michael Roth, a former protégé of Mike Grgich and Nils Venge, shows off his considerable skills with today’s perfect for summer sipping Rosé!
This wine is absolutely brilliant to behold with a stunning coral hue and crystalline clarity. You’ll find a rosé with a surprisingly complex nose with tangerine, kefir lime, straw, and peony with freeze-dried strawberries. The flavor profile on this wine is striking with a berry medley of blueberry, raspberry, and strawberry with the same freeze-dried quality that is found on the nose. There’s a delightful marmalade and pear note there as well. It’s exactly what you want out of a rosé with more weight and nuance on the palate than a white wine, but still makes you smack your lips and say “ah!” This wine would do well with a broad range of foods, but it would be particularly nice with a Caprese salad antipasto with fresh meaty heirloom tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, and Genovese basil.
This wine was made by winemaker, Michael Roth, whose early career found him learning from two of the best minds in contemporary winemaking, Nils Venge, 100 point winemaker from Saddleback Cellars, and Mike Grgich of Grgich Hills Estate. These two winemakers are responsible for some of the finest wines that we’ve had the pleasure to feature on these pages. Michael Roth, one of the most down to earth winemakers we’ve had the pleasure to work with, says of winemaking, “I always wanted to have a job where it was kind of a trade, like being a tradesman or a carpenter. Winemaking is like that. I’m really into the idea that you should be physically making the wine if you call yourself a winemaker.”
We really appreciate his hands-on approach, which really shines through in today’s truly exceptional Rosé.
