Mission Codename 95 and climbing

Today’s multi-award winning Michael-Scott 2012 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was the surprise hit of our most recent tasting panel. Our entire panel was unanimous in declaring this 2012 “… quite possibly the finest ‘12 Napa Cabernet that we’ve featured”. That praise is well-deserved, this wine is fantastic.

Remember, the 2012 Napa Cabernet vintage was awarded a stratospheric 96 points by Wine Spectator Magazine - making this wine one to stock up on.

Light barely passes through its dense garnet heart, which is encircled by a thin ring of maroon at the edge. On the nose, the bouquet is an alluring medley of leather, tobacco, nutmeg, black currants, cherry, and dates. The palate has a complex offering of robust fruit and oak barrel flavors with notes of pomegranate, maraschino cherry, cranberry, gravel, baking spices, and tobacco. Cab is king and this offering from Michael-Scott will remind you why as it delivers a powerful, yet smooth drinking experience that sits across the palate and covers it like a two by four, leading into a long, tapered finish. Without a doubt, the way to go here would a bacon-wrapped filet mignon. But when is that not the way to go?

The Napa Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area) is located in Napa County, California, United States. Napa Valley is considered one of the foremost wine regions in the world. Wine grapes thrive here, due to the combination of geography, the Mediterranean climate and geology of the region, which are perfect for wine grape growing. The region was established as a wine-growing region with its first commercial vineyard, which was planted in 1858.

In 1976, the region rose to prominence when a Napa Valley wine rocked the wine world by winning the fabled “Judgement of Paris”, beating out French wines in a blind tasting.

Here’s what the wine press has to say.

95 Points - Just Wine Points

94 Points - Chris Sawyer, “Sommelier to the stars”

92 Points - Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast - “Fine-grained tannins cradle juicy blackberry and blueberry around a complex character of graphite and smoke. Full bodied, the wine is nicely balanced, with acidity behind the strength, finishing with length and grace.”

Gold Medal - San Francisco Chronicle 2016 Wine Competition
