Mission Codename Emerging, unfolding...
Today’s wine is very highly recommended!
Today we celebrate the return of Abiouness Wines, whose introduction earlier this year took our Operatives by storm. You all love Abiouness wines so much that we went straight for their best for today’s special offering.
Winemaker Nicole Abiouness has had a remarkable career. She’s worked for some of the finest wine houses in the world, including Chateau La Tour Blanch, Robert Mondavi, Chapellete and others. Today, we’re proud to have her signature wine, the delectable Abiouness Wines 2015 Eaglepoint Ranch Mendocino County Sangiovese. This wine is Nicoles flagship wine, from her nearly 2 decades old Sangiovese vineyards.
This Sangiovese is a gorgeous ruby red, with a band of deep magenta around the outer ring. The nose on this wine is lovely with mature and ripe fruit aromas of cranberry, cherry and wild strawberry, with a slate minerality and subtle spicy sandalwood undertones. It drinks very much like a Sangio, with bing cherry flavor that pops, along with fig, rhubarb, plum compote and an anise backend. It’s California meets Italy, with more body than your Italian wine, but very much the same lower tannin profile with emphasis on fruit. Please pass the fresh pesto gnocchi! Salut!
If we look to winemaker Nicole Abiouness’ career, we begin to understand just why her wines are soooooo very good. Her career has taken her around the world, to work on some of the best ever winemaking teams, including Robert Mondavi, Swanson Vineyards, Chappellet Winery, Luna Vineyards. She’s also worked for Australian winery Yalumba, and French wineries, Château La Tour Blanche and Domaine Comte Armand. Her Abiouness label focuses on superior quality, small batch Sangiovese, and Pinot Noir production.
