Enjoy today’s stunning find at a price that you’ll never see again!
Welcome to our latest Super Super Spy Sunday, dear Operative! Each Sunday, we strive to bring you a phenomenal wine at a spectacular price. For today’s Annadel Estate Winery 2012 “Anni’s Blend” Red Blend, we met up with our friend, winemaker Dean Bordigioni, whose love for wine and place are apparent in today’s very special Red.
This red blend is fairly dense with a bright crimson hue from its core all the way to the edge. With a wonderfully complex and rich nose, this properly-aged Bordeaux style blend has it all: Leather, tobacco, potpourri, sandalwood, plum and blackberry compote, fruitcake, and olive. So too does the palate, with layers of flavor including plum, cranberry, black currants, mild tobacco, and dark chocolate. It has a profoundly round and full mouthfeel, engaging every nook and cranny of the palate with a perfectly-balanced profile. It would be wonderful with big pappardelle noodles with a simple sauce of hot oil, large garlic cloves, and pancetta.
Annadel Estate Winery, established in the 1880s, had been neglected for decades when owner Dean Bordigioni purchased the property in 2007. Today Annadel thrives as a burgeoning winery as well as an elegant, world-class wedding and event site, organic produce farm, and exquisite heirloom flower business. The Annadel Estate has reawakened into the grand old property of her youth.
The Sonoma Valley AVA is one of the oldest wine growing regions in California, with the first vines being planted in the early 1800s. The AVA is located along California Route 12 and its eastern boundary is the southern end of the Mayacama mountains. The unique micro-climate with less rainfall and fog than other parts of the region along with its unique soil provides excellent growing conditions for Pinot Noir as well as Merlot, Zinfandel, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
