Kukeri is back… with a Pinot Noir from the Cornerstone Vineyard in Los Carneros. This is one of our favorite California Pinot regions and today’s wine delivers that classic, cool weather Carneros terroir, with flavors, aromas, and a mouthfeel that combine to give the wine real gravitas.
At its heart, this Pinot Noir has a translucent crimson hue with an even gradient that transitions smoothly to maroon. The nose is intriguing with a complex array of aromas including juicy blueberry, fresh blackberry, subtle smokiness, and dusty bramble. It opens up to cedar and rose petals if you let it breathe long enough. On the palate, the vanilla oak notes join the fray with dark fruit tones coming to the fore, such as boysenberry and plum compote, with baking spice and subtle anise in the background. Definitely a cool-weather Pinot with a bit more gravitas and weight than most, yet silky-smooth tannins create a soft and luxurious mouthfeel from start to finish. Perfectly paired with salmon fillet with crisped skin served on a bed of couscous with garden-fresh pesto and slices of tangerines.
Kukeri wines are really something special and we are super proud of our longstanding relationship with this heretofore undercover winery. We love finding small boutique gems like Kukeri for you. We first discovered the wines of Petar Kirilov in 2013, and we’ve been following his career - and his wine gems - ever since.
