Mission Codename Rising Star
Winemaker Garrett Ahnfeldt brings us his superb G Wine Cellars 2014 Mountains Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is dark, dense, and everything you’d expect in a luxury Napa Cab.
Today’s mountain grown Napa Cab features an intense, inky dark core with a thin lip of magenta around the outer edge. The nose is absolutely to die for with dusty bramble, cola, sasparilla, potpourri, and boysenberry. The sasparilla transforms into full-on root beer, backed by delicious dark fruit like black plum and current. There’s a mocha and vanilla kick on the backend as well. Dark and brooding, this full-bodied Cab covers the whole palate like a blanket for a tremendous finish. You’re going to want to pre-heat the oven because a fully loaded pot roast is going in there when you pop this bottle.
The Napa Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area) is located in Napa County, California, United States. Napa Valley is considered one of the foremost wine regions in the world. Wine grapes thrive here, due to the combination of geography, the Mediterranean climate and geology of the region, which are perfect for wine grape growing. The region was established as a wine-growing region with its first commercial vineyard, which was planted in 1858.
In 1976, the region rose to prominence when a Napa Valley wine rocked the wine world by winning the fabled “Judgement of Paris”, beating out French wines in a blind tasting.
