Mission Codename With neighbors like these...
Welcome, Operative! Great to see you on this fine Super Spy Sunday! Today marks the first time that we’ve showcased a Black Label wine from our friends at Maroon Wines. Their Maroon Wines 2013 Black Label Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from [REDACTED] and [REDACTED], whose exclusive vineyards neighbor Maroon’s.
Maroon won’t tell me exactly who the grapes came from, but our more curious and clever Operatives can simply use the Wine Spies Satellite (or Google’s) to spy just who their neighbors are. If you figure it out, let us know! Just keep it a secret from everyone else!
This Napa Cab has a rich and deep garnet center that light barely passes through with a lip of ruby at the edge. The nose is a fragrant mixture of red and black fruit with blackcurrant, red and black cherry, and pomegranate with a sandalwood spice aspect and a hint of red peppercorn. Their flavors unfold on the palate in waves with fruitcake and cranberry up front followed by spice notes of allspice with graceful notes of tobacco and leather at the crescendo. It’s all about structure here, and this offering from Maroon boasts exquisite tannin that provides a scaffold for the intense and complex flavor profile. With the insane amount you’re saving on this wine, upgrading to filet mignon is an easy choice. Upon further reflection, you’ll realize that steak should also be wrapped in bacon.
We really love this elegant, flavor-packed wine. Drink now or lay down for a decade or more. This wine will only continue to improve.
Cheers!
