2017 Russian River Valley Rosé of Pinot Noir
California: Sonoma County: Russian River Valley
Pretty in Pink
We’ve long been fans of the delectable libations of Furthermore Wines. Today, we’re giddy with excitement. We’ve got the very special Furthermore Wines 2017 Russian River Valley Rosé of Pinot Noir. This pretty, pink wine is an absolute delight to imbibe on a sunny afternoon, or with an evening appetizer course.
This rosé is sunshine in a glass with perfect clarity and a happy tangerine hue. The nose foretells the acidity and body with lively watermelon, raspberry and banana fruit notes with sur lees character of toasted coconut. On the palate, the tropical fruit comes out with mango and lychee flavors. The citrus matches the color, with bright tangerine and mandarin orange notes in the mix. It’s got peppy acidity and a lush mouthfeel for an easy and refreshing drinking experience that pops. Perfect for late-summer sipping. This would be ideal with a zesty gazpacho, punched up with peppers and topped with refreshing cucumber.
The Russian River Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area) in Sonoma County is particularly is known for exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but, with enough sunlight exposure to aid ripening, Zinfandel also grows quite well here. This AVA was officially designated in 1983, but many of the wines in the region used the designation as early as the 1970s (early in California’s wine history) with many of the vines having been first planted in the early 1900s. Rosés from this region are often characterized as being particularly well suited to elegant food pairings.
This is a very food-friendly wine and you can be sure that we’ll be setting a few bottles aside for our upcoming Fall soirees. Thanksgiving among them, dear Operative.
