2016 Napa Valley Red Blend
California: Napa Valley
The Red Road
Our Operatives love a great deal - especially on big, juicy Napa Valley Red Blends like today’s delicious. Ultra QPR (Quality to Price Ratio) Skryne Road 2016 Napa Valley Red Blend. This is another fantastic, drinks-above-its-price-class wine from Napa-legend winemaker, Barb Spelletich who continues to wow us. Don’t miss this one.
This Napa Valley blend has an excellent consistency of color with a solid ruby tint throughout. The nose is fragrant and pleasant with aromas of red cherry, maraschino cherry, cola, dried roses, and boysenberry preserves. It takes a darker turn on the palate with plum compote, dried fig, rhubarb, and currant fruit notes accompanying a subtle cigar box barrel notes. This blend strives for balance and achieves it with lush, soft tannin evenly coating the palate and carrying the fruit to a long, graceful finish. This would be perfect with braised pork-belly with a pomegranate honey glaze on a bed of arugula and couscous.
We’ve been selling the wines of Barb Spelletich for more than a decade now. We have always been impressed - and we’ve always felt that her wines deliver exceptional value.
We asked Bard to describe her winemaking philosophy. She replied, “I do want to manipulate wine. I want to harvest when ripe, ferment cool to capture the fruit essence and age until the wine is ready to be bottled. The most important feature of my wine is that it smell and taste of the grapes it was made from. Simple.”
The Napa Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area) is located in Napa County, California, United States. Napa Valley is considered one of the foremost wine regions in the world. Wine grapes thrive here, due to the combination of geography, the Mediterranean climate and geology of the region, which is perfect for wine grape growing. The region was established as a wine-growing region with its first commercial vineyard, which was planted in 1858.
4/5 Stars “Wow…. what a great wine at a great price. Dark garnet color. Lots of cherry, blueberry and vanilla notes. The mouthfeel is soft but with a tiny spiciness that’s barely there in a wonderful way. There is a little more spice mid-palate and the tannins are mild but linger VERY long. A great wine.” - Doug Winston, Vivino.com
