2016 Napa Valley Red Blend
California: Napa Valley
Any way you Spell it...
When we first learned about this new wine label from our old friend, winemaker Barb Spelletich, we made it a point to rush in to be the first wine merchant in the country to make it available. Today’s K. Redmond 2016 Napa Valley Red Blend is a delicious Cabernet blend at one steal of a price.
This Napa Cab blend has a bright ruby hue from the center through to the edge. Bright red fruit bursts forth from the bouquet with strawberry, cherry with floral notes of hibiscus and violets. There’s a subtle vanilla quality there as well. Black fruit comes to the fore on the palate with dark plum, black currants, blueberry with tobacco and savory herb near the finish. This wine is very well balanced, especially after being allowed to open up, with harmony between sugar, acidity, alcohol, tannin, and fruit. Kudos! Let’s get straight to the point - This bad boy calls for some USDA Prime top sirloin with a fresh bottle of A1.
We asked Bard to describe her winemaking philosophy. She replied, “I do want to manipulate wine. I want to harvest when ripe, ferment cool to capture the fruit essence and age until the wine is ready to be bottled. The most important feature of my wine is that it smell and taste of the grapes it was made from. Simple.”
The Napa Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area) is located in Napa County, California, United States. Napa Valley is considered one of the foremost wine regions in the world. Wine grapes thrive here, due to the combination of geography, the Mediterranean climate and geology of the region, which is perfect for wine grape growing. The region was established as a wine-growing region with its first commercial vineyard, which was planted in 1858.
