Hurry! This ultra QPR Zinger of a Zin won’t last the day…
Back in May of this year, we showcased an Amista wine - and sold out in just hours! Well, we’re thrilled to report that they’re back with a doozy of a Zinfandel, their flagship single vineyard Amista Vineyards 2015 “Gene’s Block” Saini Farms Vineyard Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. This is a true Zin-lover’s delight.
This Zin is beautiful in the glass with a deep maroon hue spreading out to a nearly magenta lip. The fresh, juicy nose is super inviting with a berry medley of boysenberry, framboise, red cherry and blackberry syrup. There’s a wonderful molasses gingerbread note there as well. On the palate the gingerbread spice really comes to the fore with thick custard notes of pumpkin pie. There’s also a surprisingly powerful flavor of perfectly ripe yellow peach. This is what Zin is all about. Huge, simply delicious fruit notes with ample spice. It’s even a bit spritzy, letting the flavors dance effervescently across the tongue. Love it! Perfect for a classic holiday dessert such as pumpkin or pecan pie. Don’t forget the vanilla ice cream!
The Dry Creek Valley AVA in northeastern Sonoma (north of Healdsburg) County is somewhat warmer and wetter than the neighboring Russian River Valley AVA region just to the south, and the Alexander Valley AVA just to the east. The warmer and wetter climate provides great versatility with regard to the types of grapes that can be effectively cultivated in the region.
