Mission Briefing

Codename:

Picasso's Pride

Pablo Picaso adored the Terra Alta region of Spain - and now you have a chancy to taste why!

We have an exceptional exclusive for you, today! Today’s 94 point wine hails from the geographically isolated Terra Alta DO (Denominació d’Origen) in the Catalan region of Spain. We’re the only one in the country with this special Serra & Barcelo 2015 Aucala “DO Terra Alta” Tinto. Supply is limited, so please grab some while you can.

As the name of the varietal implies, this wine is so dark at the center it’s black, with an even gradient that spreads out to red near the edge. This quirky varietal takes you on an adventure with a nose full of olive, black current, tar, fig, and date. On the palate it takes a further twist with notes of cedar, potting soil, allium, black pepper, and tomato leaf. Easily quaffable with soft, subtle tannin that is a suitable substrate for the flavor journey this wine takes you on. One of those wines that may be best enjoyed contrasting with a sweet dish. Try with a chocolate mousse.

Terra Alta is a Catalan Denominación de Origen (DO, or Denominació d’Origen in Catalan) for wines located in the west of the province of Tarragona (Catalonia, Spain) and covers 12 inland municipalities. As the name indicates, (Terra Alta = High Land) the area is in the mountains. The region features in a number of Picasso’s paintings.

Traditionally, due to its geographical isolation, this area traditionally only made wine for local consumption and has only recently started to produce modern Mediterranean style wines.

Don’t miss out on this special, limited-availability wine.

Here’s what the wine press has to say:

94 Points - Vintage marked by fruity character. Intense and complex in aromas, the notes of ripe red fruits are highlighted wrapped in menthol-like balsamic nuances, linked to a subtle mineral touch. The palate is broad, fresh and elegant, with a saline touch and a tannin of fine and sweet notes, which together with its balanced acidity give it a long journey in the mouth, which is both fresh and persistent - Sarah T.
