Wondering what we said about this wine when we featured it earlier this year? Read on:
Ask Agent Red who his favorite director is and he won’t hesitate to answer, “Francis Ford Coppola!”, so it is no surprise that he’s so excited to bring you today’s Coppola Winery 2015 Coppola King Kong Cabernet Sauvignon. This ultra budget-friendly wine has won so many awards, including a 95 point score!
Picture perfect! This wine is cinematic with a vibrant ruby red turning a dark scarlet at the edge. Like any good opening scene, it grabs your attention right away with a spicy nose front that tantalizes with allspice, cedar, black pepper, and cloves with a huge cherry fruit note. It maintains its pace on the palate with the cherry expanding into pomegranate and plum. There’s Chinese five spice element as well with a bit of cigar box to let you know this is one of the big boys. Of course, it boasts a climactic finish fit for the silver screen with its bold tannins slowly unfolding before slowly fading to black. The pairing? Your favorite Coppola film of course! Apocalypse Now, The Godfather… Any of them will do!
This is just the second ever Coppola wine that we’ve featured - and we’re thrilled to say that it won’t be our last. After years of persistent begging for their wines, we’re no longer the annoying pests that we’ve been, we’re becoming friends. Look for more amazing Coppola wines in the coming months.
