Mission Codename Ciao, Insignia!
Maroon Wines 2013 Reserve Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon is a beast!. An elegant, balanced, delicious beast.
We are lucky enough to have a very special relationship with Maroon - which gives us special access to their wines at prices that our Operatives love. Today’s Ultra QPR wine is a very highly recommended steal!
Dark and masculine on the nose, with dense, layered aromas of braised cherry, black plum, cassis, boysenberry, black cherry tobacco, cracked pepper, dark spice and a hint of caramelized sugar.
The palate starts off sweet and fruit-driven with blackberry preserve, cassis, boysenberry and black cherry, then goes more dark and serious as the grip and tannins drive flavors of baking spice, dark oak, bramble, tobacco leaf, hard leather and subtle cracked pepper to the far corners of the palate.
Maroon’s estate vineyard in Coombsville contains 18 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that, for ten years, were sold to Joseph Phelps Vineyard for their flagship Insignia. That’s a $200 bottle of Cab!
Neighbors of Robert Craig and the fabled Monticello Vineyard, Maroon made the transition from grower to wine producer in 2008. The Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville is their top bottle, and 100% estate grown.
This fantastic wine is yours… if you act soon.
Here’s what the wine press has to say:
93 points - Beverage Testing Institute - “Nearly opaque violet color. Aromas and flavors of baked berries and herbs, toasted nuts and meringue, and cornichon with a satiny, vibrant, dry-yet-fruity body and a warming, complex, cassis chutney, sweet and peppery spices. Oak and earth finish with fine, silky tannins and moderate oak. A lush, concentrated cabernet for pleasure now or many years hence.”
