Mission Codename Spawn of Angels
Today’s elegant, silky, delicious Coho Wines 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is the latest in a string of best-selling wines that come to us from this small but mighty Napa Valley winery. This wine was made by Philip Corallo-Titus, whose name has come to be known around Wine Spies HQ as producing some of our very favorite wines… like today’s.
Wines from Philip’s namesake Titus label is how Agent Red came to be acquainted with the intricately detailed winemaking of mister Titus. You may know Philips Titus from his two decades as winemaker of Chappellet Winery.
This wine has a dense dark garnet core that has a very thin lip of magenta at the outermost edge. Coho wines consistently offer complex aromatics and this Napa Cab is no exception with an offering of fig, plum compote, sandalwood, potpourri, and Chinese five-spice. The palate is luxurious with spiced apple, black cherry, and blackberry, fruitcake, cardamom, and tobacco. It’s really just a beautifully constructed with soft, gentle tannin that coats the center of the palate in an even, smooth layer of textured flavor all the way into the extended finish. Bowtie pasta with a simple white sauce dressing with pancetta and peas would be an excellent companion for this stellar wine.
Enjoy this very highly recommended wine, Operative. We know you’ll love it.
