Mission Codename Return of the Strongman

Back in 2011, Rodney Strong was one of our very best selling wine brands. Each time we featured a Rodney Strong wine, we’d invariably sell out. We just couldn’t keep enough in stock to meet the demand. And then things changed, and Rodney Strong had to keep their wines for their wine club members - and we could no longer secure the wines for you.

After a nearly 8 year absence, Rodney Strong Vineyards makes their return! Today only, and only while it lasts, we have a limited quantity of their award-winning Rodney Strong Vineyards 2014 Symmetry Alexander Valley Meritage. This wine is the winery’s flagship red blend - and oh, my is it great!

This Meritage blend is a deep garnet with flecks of ruby only visible if you hold it up to the light. It has a fully-developed, rich bouquet with aromas of cassis, black tea, leather, tobacco leaf, pine sawdust, and caramelized brown sugar. The flavor profile is equally lush with dark chocolate, molasses, black currants, dates, fresh earth, and plum. Drinks like a top-quality Sonoma County Bordeaux blend - seamless integration, lush soft tannin, ripe delicious fruit, and a long tapered elegant finish. Don’t settle for anything less than a thick cut of top sirloin topped with sauteed onion and mushrooms.

The Alexander Valley in northeast Sonoma County is located on the western side of the Mayacamas range and extends westward to the edge of the Russian River Valley. This appellation was formerly considered a part of Dry Creek Valley but became its own appellation in November 1984. The region is best known for exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Enjoy!

Here’s what the wine press has to say.

91 points - Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate - “Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2014 Proprietary Red Symmetry has pretty red and black currants notes with touches of dried herbs, tilled soil and tapenade. Medium to full-bodied, the palate gives up vibrant black fruits with a refreshing line and nice, chewy tannins, finishing on a mineral note.”

92 points - Wine and Spirits - “Rodney Strong’s investments in hillside vineyards have been paying off in wines like this 2014, a blend based on cabernet sauvignon from the Brothers Vineyard in the hills above Geyserville. It includes small lots of merlot and petit verdot from estate properties in Alexander Valley, along with malbec and cabernet from Knights Valley. It’s the clarity of the flavor that’s most impressive—woodland cherry notes that capture the cool elevations of the fruit and a dark, foresty mushroom savor that amplifies the tannins. Silky and plump, with lasting intensity, this is a mouthwatering cabernet to serve with roast lamb.”
