Mission Codename Ocean Breeze
Roald your horses!
A showstopper Chardonnay is here from a brand new winery on the block and it is - especially for just under $20 a pop - an eyeopening find. A protege of none other than legendary veteran winemaker David Ramey, owner / winemaker Greg Nelson named his project after his father’s name as a tribute. Nelson, who has a PhD in Biology, came to winemaking purposefully, after journeying down life’s roads for a while. Greg learned to make wine at Ramey, then started honing his craft with various wineries in the area including Benziger and Martinelli. Wines for contemplation and sharing is the mantra for Roald Wine Company where the results show a refined hand at the helm, and offer elegantly made, lower alcohol options for the knowledgeable wine crowd.
A dazzling golden color, of the California sunshine kind that glimmers in Spring. The nose greets with lively notes of apple, pear, key lime and white pineapple, with a dash of nutmeg. The zippy acidity woke the palate up with a burst of nectarine, and sweet corn adding layers of complexity. A sustained note of citrus peel and candied ginger compose the finish with a touch of white pepper. For the ultimate plate to accompany, take Frutti di Mare, a symphony of shellfish and fish, add a creamy sauce and your favorite pasta. And chill, ideally by a poolside.
This beauty is exclusively available through Wine Spies for the day before it sells out, at this superb price point!
Last but not least, they just opened a brand new tasting room in downtown Healdsburg where the décor shows off a subtle late 50’s jazz club vibe, with mid-century stylish furnishings arranged into comfortable and welcoming spaces for guests to enjoy friendly chats, spirited discussions, or playing a game of backgammon, all while enjoying the Roald wine selections. Cheese plates and nibbles are available to enhance the tasting and sharing experience as the Roald portfolio is all about wine being an integral part of the table.
