Mission Codename Makes Cenyth
The Wine Spies love our red blends, and today’s Cenyth 2012 Sonoma County Red Wine presents a fantastic well-made blend of juicy fruit and excellent structure.
Winemaker Hélène Seillan grew up in the wine trade, learning from her father, world-renowned winemaker Pierre Seillan. She’s put her ample experience and skills into today’s delicious Red Blend.
Stephen Tanzer rewarded her efforts with a 93 point score, and Antonio Galloni of Vinous rated it at 92 points.
If you tasted this wine blind you would think it was a Grand Cru Bordeaux from a prestigious house. This wine has old world elegance with new world power. The nose is complex and nuanced while the palate is rich and approachable. Such a great wine from a first time winemaker!
Please enjoy our fullest recommendation for today’s delicious, food friendly blend!
Here’s what the wine press has to say:
~
91-93 Points - Stephen Tanzer’s IWC - May/June 2014 - _“Bright dark ruby. Vibrant aromas of black fruits lifted by minerals and violet. At once sweet and penetrating in the mouth, with terrific definition and floral lift to the black fruit and bitter chocolate flavors. Still youthfully clenched but appears to have the sweetness of fruit to support its huge tannins. Clearly the longest wine to date for this new label.
92 points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous - “The 2012 Red Wine Sonoma County is one of the under the radar jewels of the vintage. Sweet floral notes meld into espresso, plum, dark red cherry and cedar notes. Perfumed, expressive and impeccably balanced, the 2012 impresses for its overall sense of proportion and harmony.
The style is rich and quite textured, but younger vines and an overall approach that seeks to preserve freshness give the wine considerable energy. There is a lot to like here, including the price.”
90 points - Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate - “The 2012 Proprietary Red (3,847 cases) is a blend of 60% Cabernet Franc, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot that was aged in 30% new oak. It is a delicious, fruit-forward, delicate, Bordeaux-styled red revealing notes of blackcurrants, blueberries, licorice and earth. Medium to full-bodied, round and easygoing, it is best consumed over the next 7-8 years.”
