W3... 2... 1... gone

Today’s special encore presentation was our 2016 Wine Spies Wine Intrigue Award for Top 2012 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. We were able to convince the winery to part with a handful of cases, so today is your lucky day!

2012 Cabs remain among the very best of vintages in recent memory. Wine Spectator Magazine awarded this special vintage a whopping 96 points, along with a special Buy Alert.

Here’s is what we told you about this wine, back in 2016:

Welcome to the Wine Spies Intrigue Awards for 2016! Each year we recognize our most popular and most sought-after wines from the previous year - while giving our Operatives one final chance to secure some of the winning wines for themselves.

Today’s W3 2012 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is our 2016 Wine Spies Intrigue Award winner for Operatives’ Choice: Best 2012 Napa Cabernet and the best wine that we’ve ever tasted from this Wine Spies favorite winery.

I am over the moon, dear Operative! Today’s wine is the best that we’ve ever tasted from this Wine Spies favorite winery, rich and ripe on the nose with a bold, fruit-filled palate.

When a Napa Cab vintage earns a score of 95 points or higher, bottles fly off the shelves. When the 2012 Napa Cabernet vintage earned its stellar 96 points from Wine Spectator Magazine it became the it vintage. Today’s wine is well on its way to being sold out - so please visit soon if you’d like some.

Tasting Profile

Look:

Darkest indigo with glinting ruby edges. Fat, slow-moving legs form very low on the glass wall.

Smell:

Candied cherry, plum, blueberry, blackberry, sweet spice, tobacco, chocolate, earth, and a hint of cracked pepper.

Taste:

Bold blackberry, blueberry, plum, baker’s chocolate, sweet tobacco leaf, dark spice, oak, and cracked pepper follow on.

Finish:

Extra long and very plush. Slightly drying as crushed velvet tannins spread across the entire palate.

Pairing:

Enjoy this very elegant and very food-friendly wine with coffee-rubbed pork chops, a grilled steak or a juicy pot roast.
