Happily in the Red
Welcome to another of our popular Super Spy Sunday events! Every Sunday we present you with a wine of stellar quality - at a fantastic price.
Today’s selection is the brilliant Vellum Wine Craft 2013 ‘Red’ Proprietary Red Wine. This 94 point stunner is yours at wallet-friendly 68% off.
Today’s wine is rich with spice and red fruit on the nose, leading with mixed brown spice, dusty bramble, savory herbs that give way to grilled plum, braised fig, black cherry, black currant, baker’s chocolate, slate mineral and darkly toasted oak.
Much more fruit forward on the palate than the nose initially indicates, with flavors of Bing cherry, blackberry juice, red currant, pomegranate, followed by sweet spice, toasty oak, sweetwood, dried fall leaves and a hint of black pepper.
The Napa Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area) is located in Napa County, California, United States. Napa Valley is considered one of the foremost wine regions in the world. Wine grapes thrive here, due to the combination of geography, the Mediterranean climate and geology of the region, which are perfect for wine grape growing. The region was established as a wine growing region with it’s first commercial vineyard, which was planted in 1858.
In 1976, the region rose to prominence when a Napa Valley wine rocked the wine world by winning the fabled “Judgement of Paris”, beating out French wines in a blind tasting.
Today’s wine is offered to you with our fullest recommendation!
Here’s what the wine press has to say:
94 points - Catherine Fallis, Master Sommelier
92 points - Purely Domestic Wine Report
2016 World Wine Award Medalist - Decanter Magazine
Dark ruby at the core, fine dark pink at the edges. The wine settles quickly after a good swirl, leaving behind round after round of skinny tears that move very slowly down the glass wall.
Mixed brown spice, dusty bramble, savory herbs, grilled plum, braised fig, black cherry, black currant, baker’s chocolate, slate mineral, and darkly toasted oak.
Bing cherry, blackberry juice, red currant, pomegranate, sweet spice, toasty oak, sweetwood, dried fall leaves and a hint of black pepper.
Very long and softly drying, leading to a crushed velvet feel that spreads across the entire palate.
Enjoy this wine with braised beef medallions with Shitake mushrooms and red wine sauce.
