Mission Codename Moonlight Sonata
Be quick, Operative! While we may have purchased every last case in America, today’s wine is such a steal that we expect it to sell out early.
Today’s wine was an instant smash hit with our entire tasting panel. Especially when they found out that the bottle was priced at under $12. Today’s freshly delicious Rocca delle Macie 2014 Toscana Indicazione Geografica Tipica “Moonlite” is a perfect blend of Chardonnay, Vermentino, Pinot Grigio, and Trebbiano.
This white blend has crystalline clarity and shines in the glass with a warm sunshine yellow hue. Taking your first sniff, you’re greeted with a fresh and inviting bouquet of elderflower, quince, apricot, tangerine, and kiwi - yum! On the palate, there’s a great deal of more melon and tropical fruit nuance with papaya and guava also coming to the fore. Apple and pear notes are there to be found as well. Blends are wonderful because they allow for an incredible confabulation of flavor profiles, and this fruit-forward concoction contains the best attributes of each varietal. This would be perfect to compliment a creamy dish such as Dungeness crab with melted butter or fettuccine alfredo.
For well over 40 years the Zingarelli family has dedicated themselves to crafting the finest wines, providing meticulous attention to the vineyards, and championing Chianti Classico DOC and other fine Italian varietals and blends. Today, Sergio Zingarelli stands at the helm of the winery where he lives with his wife, Daniela, and their two children.
Here’s what the wine press has to say:
91 points - James Suckling - “A bright white for Tuscany with sliced lemons and pineapple as well as hints of minerals. Full body, crisp acidity and a vivid finish. Screw cap.”
