Mission Codename Open the Floodgate
Rosé on the rise and with Springtime in full bloom, we’re bringing you one of the tastiest, easy-drinking Rosés we’ve ever featured. Today’s wine was made by Gary Farrell protegé, Woody Hambrecht. Woody is a 3rd-generation wine maven, his grandfather, Bill, having been one of the early pioneers of Cali wine.
Simply stunning in the glass with its jewel-like clarity and pinkish-orange hue. The nose is bright and fresh with tangerine and elderflower aromas up front followed by yellow plum, mango, and melon. Juicy and delicious on the palate with huge watermelon and raspberry notes. Also plenty cantaloupe, honeydew and kiwi to be found. Hits the bullseye perfectly offering both body and refreshment all wrapped up in a pretty pink package. It would pair well with a sunny day at the beach and a charcuterie snack pack.
Woody Hambrecht has wowed us in the past with wines from his Alysian Wines project. For his Floodgate wines, Woody is sourcing grapes from some of California’s most coveted vineyard sources. He gets his grapes from his own vineyards, and from his network of winemakers from some of the most elite wine brands. Woody’s own grapes can be found in wines like The Prisoner and other cult wineries.
The Hambrecht family has been in the California wine business for over 45 years, partnering in esteemed brands like Ridge, Chalone, Bradford Mountain, and Truett Hurst. Bill Hambrecht was among the first visionary business owners to open a winery on Healdsburg’s picturesque Westside Road in 1982. Belvedere Winery marked the beginning of what would become a family tradition and commitment to producing wines of the utmost quality.
It’s this commitment to excellence that led to Floodgate and Alysian Wines, which is the result of the 2006 partnership between the Hambrechts and veteran winemaker, Gary Farrell. Sourced from only the best vineyards, their multiple award-winning wines strike a delicate balance with flavor profiles that delight both connoisseurs and newcomers alike.
Stock up, Operative. You’ll want enough of this wine on hand to last through the summer…
