Mission Codename F in Fantastic
The many Fs in this red stand for, well, first and foremost the F in the color red on the Fleury Estate logo, according to the fun story behind how this blend was born. We find it flirtatious by nature, fabulous in taste and formidable in value, exclusively available here for a day. The F in Red, from the 98-points by Robert Parker 2013 vintage has become an instant favorite of our tasting panel, get in on this fantastic Rutherford red!
Fairly deep fire brick red, like a velvet curtain unveiling a crimson dawn. The nose is fragrant and forward with blackberries and plum, fascinating and fruitful. Firm and flavorful, with focused tannins building a fancy, full-bodied feel. Flashy, flawless, forceful and fulfilling, folding flavors for minutes on end. Finest cut of filet mignon, fancy sides, and a balsamic fig reduction sauce would be a fitting companion.
Surrounded by the famous Beckstoffer Vineyards, this is as close as one could get to being the ‘right bank’ counterpart to the cult red Quintessa, grown just to its East as the crow flies which by the way would cost you about $200 a bottle! Speaking of the crow, Rutherford uber-cult ($1,000+) Scarecrow is just around the corner too. What you get here, ladies and gentlemen, courtesy of The Wine Spies’ secret weapons of negotiation, is legendary Rutherford Dust for a dreamlike $33.99, an F in find that is!
