Mission Codename Cab Town, USA
The Master is back, with a wine that is guaranteed to blow you away!
It has been a while since we’ve seen a Cabernet as extraordinary as this Robert Mondavi Winery 2014 Napa Valley Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is densely layered with flavors that drench the palate with an elegance that is the hallmark of Mondavi’s higher-end Cabernet. Enjoy now or cellar for 15+ years.
Dense and very fragrant on the nose, with aromas of blackberry pie, blueberry jam, cassis, hard leather, cocoa, coffee bean, spice box, toasty cedar plank, vanilla, and dark oak. Rich, sublimely layered and very dense on the palate, with dark flavors of blackberry jam, pie spice, cassis, plum, dark spice, vanilla, espresso bean, baker’s chocolate, blackberry candy, and a touch of cracked peppercorn.
In 1966, Robert Mondavi was a man with a mission. Mondavi had the vision to create the first major post-prohibition winery in the United States. His dream of crafting the best wines in the world has been realized and today the winery is recognized as a global leader in fine wine. It hardly gets much finer than with today’s Oakville Cabernet, a worthy homage to the master of wine himself.
Here’s what the wine press has to say:
91 Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous - ”Mondavi’s 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville is creamy, ample and expressive, especially considering it was bottled just two weeks prior to this tasting. Dark red cherry, spice, leather and menthol infuse this hugely appealing, mid-weight Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2014 was sourced 95% from To-Kalon and 5% from MBar Ranch.”
90 points - Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast - ”This wine has a juicy core of cranberry, currant and red cherry that’s both powerful and graceful, exuding full-bodied richness within a context of supportive oak and tannin. The finish is dusted in coffee and nutmeg.”
