Mission Codename Goblets '52

This is our 4th Chapel Hill feature dear Operatives, so we by now have discovered and realized that it is no coincidence their reds are all winners. What puzzles us is how on earth they remain ‘under the radar’ with numerous big accolades year in year out, - like the 96-point review below on this hidden treasure - AND from a heritage vineyard planted to goblet gnarly old classic Aussie Bush Vines back in 1952… but SSHHH! More for us, right?!

Opaque, almost black as night with some crimson and purple shining through. Raspberries, cherries, blueberries, forest floor, and spices waltz harmoniously throughout a lovely nose. Cherry liqueur, kirsch, dried savory herbs intersperse amongst velvety tannins on the impressive palate. Full-bodied, mouthwatering, rich and long on the finish, yet weightless and supremely agile. Save and savor for an open wood or charcoal fire at an all-night grill party, with meats and veggies.

We could not get enough of the 2016 of this same wine so we begged for a larger allocation for the 2017, alas what we got may be just enough to go around, so we encourage you to act quickly!

Here’s what the wine press has to say:

96 Points – Rob Geddes MW - “Attractive flashes of toast and red cherry up front… The wine has a quiet energy on the palate, juicy red fruit is woven in with fine supple tannin, and the wine has length, balance and persistence. Very good winemaking and very good value!”

94 Points – James Halliday - “Old vines, made in a traditional way, but (thankfully) with moderate alcohol for the variety. Clear, light crimson; juicy red fruit flavours of strawberry, cherry and raspberry are anchored by fine lines of silky tannins, spice (which will grow with time) following on. Excellent length and finish.”
