Mission Codename Once I had a love
We’re huge music fans here at the Headquarters, so when a delicious red comes our way with a tribute name to one of the greatest dance classics of all time, all of a sudden the wine drinks even better! Paso’s Adelaida District rolling hillsides are a true heaven for Rhône varietals where they ripen effortlessly year in year out, reaching their fullest potential. While we can’t wrap our heads around how 40 years have gone by since Blondie dominated the airwaves with Heart of Glass, what’s evident is that this red blend is every drop equally tantalizing at 50% off its release price. A no brainer here dear Operatives, hang that disco ball and load up!
Lipstick hot cherry red, dripping with crimson appeal as it swirls on the dancefloor. Heady on the rich nose with raspberry jam, milk chocolate, savory herbs, and fresh cracked black pepper. A massive burst of more raspberry suggests a creamy strawberry milkshake texture on the palate. Turns seriously long, savory and spicy on the impressive finish with lingering undertones of clove and vanilla. Calling for a brick-pressed barbecue chicken and sautéed mushrooms in a cilantro lime cream sauce.
But wait, we’re not alone! Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate has also recently woken up to the wonders happening here with: “Victor Abascal’s foray into winemaking began when he planted vines on the grounds of Marycrest Manor, a convalescent home in Culver City run by nuns. When he was obligated to remove them, he came to Paso and founded this small label. It’s more than a great story, however, since Abascal’s hearty, flavorful reds are well worth consideration.”
While this vintage has not received any ratings yet, we give it a massive score for upfront sumptuousness. Go Blondie!
