Mission Codename Worth Ray-ving About
MORE Martin Ray? YAY! The tiny allocation we got last month was quickly depleted, Operatives asked for more, and here we deliver at an even better price…
Why do Martin Ray’s Cabernets consistently stack up 90+ point scores? Because they’re consistently phenomenal. This Stag’s Leap District AVA Cab knocks it straight out of the park, earning 92+ points from acclaimed reviewers such as Wine Spectator and James Suckling. At 40+% off, what are you waiting for?
The Martin Ray winery finds its home in the Russian River Valley, but their motto for their wines is “wines of place”, which clearly they take seriously. Winemaker Lindsey Haughton has impressive range indeed, as this Stag’s Leap District Cab is pitch-perfect for Napa Valley Cabernet.
With a black heart and a crimson lip, this Cabernet is striking as it appears in the glass. Incredibly rich aromas rise out of the glass with dulcet notes of mocha, blackberry, black cherry, violets, dark plum, and subtle allspice. The palate is drop-dead gorgeous with ample flavors of soft rich leather, black tilled earth, dark chocolate, maraschino cherry, and nutmeg. WOW! Even more impressive is the mouthfeel. This is what Stag’s Leap AVA is all about - silky smooth, yet robust, tannins unfold in layers on your palate. Give this wine what it deserves. A perfectly prepared filet mignon. Unless you’re a pro at grilling, bring this bottle to your favorite steakhouse for a proper pairing.
Here’s what the wine press has to say:
93 Points - James Suckling “The currant, dark-chocolate and cedar aromas are prevalent here. Full-bodied, layered and very flavorful with a long and delicious finish. Needs a year or two to come together. Drink in 2020.”
92 Points - Wine Spectator “Light savory details and sage accents add some sparkle to the core of gently steeped black currant and blackberry fruit flavors. A light alder edge shows throughout as well. Drink now through 2027.”
