Mission Codename The Golden Mask
We were first introduced to winemaker/owner Petar Kirilov and his delicious Kukeri wines in 2013, and we’ve been following his career - and his gems - ever since as they just keep getting better and better with each passing vintage. The ultimate example of boutique local wineries, the kind we love uncovering and featuring, Kukeri sources some of the best fruit available in Wine Country, and this Chardonnay perfectly brings intensity and nuance together in one perfect package. Trust us, and the multitude of accolades, to make sure you have enough of this summer white around. With just 4 barrels made, this Double Gold winner is here today and gone tomorrow!
A shining example, literally, of liquid gold, with accents of silvery sparks within. Ripe on the nose with pineapple, candied citrus, marzipan, and toasty hazelnut. Lush and vibrant at the same time on the palate, with zesty lemon drops and dried mangoes. The finish is creamy and persistent with a freshness of acidity gliding across layers of flavor. This ‘liquid sunshine’ Chardonnay is rich enough to serve with dry rub BBQ spatchcock chicken and corn on the cob.
It’s fascinating that Kukeri, an ancient Thracian ritual dating back 8,000 years that pays homage to Dionysus the wine deity, is still alive. This micro-production Chardonnay will surely please all with its ritualistic label and broad appeal. At a 40% discount there is not much to think about, if you like your Chardonnays bold, this is the one.
Here’s what the wine press has to say:

90 Points – James Suckling - “Passion fruit, mangoes and just a touch of almond paste and cashews. Medium body, bright acidity, and a fine finish. Drink now.”
