Mission Codename If It Quacks Like A Duck...
Wine Spies Agents live to bring our Operatives Ultra QPR (Quality to Price Ratio) wines like today’s Canard Vineyard 2014 “Throwback” Napa Valley Red Wine.
This 91 Point (Antonio Galloni) stunner from Napa Valley is simply a steal, but hurry because this wine will not last the day.
With an inky, blood red core at its heart and bright maroon lip, this Napa Cab makes an impression on first sight. It’s quintessential Napa Cab on the nose with dusty bramble, refined leather, plum and cherry compote, and subtle notes of hazelnut and walnut. The flavor profile picks up the barrel profile with refined vanilla bean and allspice. The fruit component of cherry, wild strawberry, and black currant are on point too. Graceful tannin provides a solid foundation that spreads horizontally across the palate with the fruit carefully stacked on top. Ideal for a hearty beef bourguignon made with a base of red wine.
Rich and Carolyn Czapleski have quietly been making wine from their estate vineyard for over 35 years and winemaker Brian Graham has been producing some beautiful wines. James Suckling rated Napa’s 2014 vintage as “one of its best years in the last two decades,” and we concur!
