Mission Codename America the Beautiful
Our Independence Day Spectacular Returns for WIA!
God bless America, the land of the free, the home of the brave. And the big. The really, really big everything, including big bottles of Classic American Cabernet Sauvignon like this one from Rutherford, by an institutional winery that dates back to the turn of the 19th century. This Red (White and Blue) is a true Classic American. If BV MAGS @ 45% OFF is not worthy of a WIA, we don’t know what is!
Bright ruby reflections coat the sides of the glass as swirled, suggesting ripe, dusty tannins. A classic bouquet of crème de cassis, lead pencil, graphite, spring flowers, and vanilla bean greets the nose, while the palate is medium to full-bodied at times, with terrific purity of red and blue fruits, along with savory nuances. Notably sweet tannins and outstanding length grace this Cabernet with textbook Rutherford elegance and grace. Especially age-worthy to celebrate with, in magnum format, at many 4th of July BBQs to come. Either open it this Fall or age for a good decade-plus.
According to Robert Parker; “One of the most dramatic revelations was the resurrection/renaissance of Beaulieu Vineyard, one of the historic names in California winedom. This was the source of some extraordinary Cabernet Sauvignons in the 50s, 60s, and early 70s, but the winery fell on hard times… However, they have come back with a vengeance over the last few vintages, noticeable since the 2007s were released. Michel Rolland, the brilliant wine consultant, was brought in to help resurrect the Private Reserve program, and it appears his magic has spilled over onto the other wines as well.”
The 2015 Napa Cabernet vintage is rated 97-points by Wine Advocate so this is one of the best years to experience the said transformation. 2 bottles’ worth, of 2015 Rutherford by BV at about 50 bucks is as BIG as savings get. Only at TWS, only for 48-hours, and only in America the Beautiful.
Here’s what the wine press has to say.
92 Points – Wine & Spirits - “Here’s a red-fruited cabernet that’s juicy and ripe, buoyed by the elegance of benchland tannins. Those tannins feel brisk, with rocky mineral edges and softer hints of leather. They gird the flavors, holding them tight, even as a beam of freshness shoots through the middle of the wine, brightening the formal structure.”
91 Points – James Suckling - “A soft and juicy red with a blackberry and black-olive character. Dark chocolate, too. Some green olives. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink or hold.”
90 Points – Antonio Galloni, Vinous - “Plush, sensual and inviting, all of which make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Hints of cedar, tobacco, menthol, chocolate and licorice add aromatic nuance to a core of fleshy dark fruit. Drink it over the next decade or so.”
90 Points – Wine Enthusiast - “Brawny char and dark chocolate create a stage for jammy black cherry and blackberry to star in this big-boned full-bodied wine. Generous use of oak and substantial tannin give it an oomph of power that persists through a soft rounded finish.”
