Do we covertly love secrets here? We’re Spies after all. We want to know EVERYTHING too, but clandestinely. When a winery comes up with a gem that is NOT supposed to be 20 bucks because the grapes that went into it and the hands that crafted are worth more, like WAY MORE, we are sworn to secrecy in exchange of access, for sharing a wine we fell in love with our dear Operatives. But read between the lines. Napa. Reserve. Oakville. Coombsville. Reknown winemaker. 2015 - a vintage rated 97 Points by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. We’ll let the wine speak for itself should further convincing be needed.
An almost impenetrable garnet-purple color, with striking vibrancy and stunning visual appeal. Sensuous, open-knit notes of blackberries, crème de cassis, and stewed plums fill the initial nose impression. Black cherries join in on the palate, with, pencil lead, allspice, violets, dark chocolate, and a touch of earth adding dimension. Long, full-bodied, lifted and full of rich and sweet, ripe, opulent fruit to the brim on the classy finish. A sensational value, open for business with roasted or grilled meats and veggies.
The musical term Stretto means “a passage, especially at the end of an aria or movement, to be performed in quicker time.” And that’s how we must approach this Cabernet. Just for the day, until it’s gone, here exclusively for those who know a great deal when they see one. At the $50 release price this was already a bargain. Deduct 60% OFF and it’s an alarming priority. Not a life-threatening, but a life-enhancing emergency. Move in quicker time as the name implies, then sit back and enjoy the Stretto on repeat.
