Mission Codename Huginn & Muninn
Two birds, one stone! Two ravens to be exact - with a nod to Norse mythology, flanking Odin the God, and a Frith stool on the label, signifying a sanctuary where wine lovers meet! Within all this mysticism, the modern-day pair of ravens that truly matter and guide this stunning red are ONE) the rising superstar Napa Valley winemaker, Christopher Vandendriessche of White Rock Vineyards (who also put Hudson Ranch on the forefront) and TWO) the ‘secret’ yet equally famous vineyard it hails from. With savings exceeding 60% this is flanked by some rare birds indeed.
Deep garnet with a fading ruby edge while the core is barely translucent with a darker crimson. The perfume is heady, as blackcurrants, blackberries, currants, truffles, tobacco, and roasted sage appear with elegance. Medium-bodied on the palate with finesse as the driver, ripe, yet pure, with no hard edges, delightful silky tannins, and vibrant acidity. Well-balanced on the extensive mid-palate, leading to a lengthier, drier berries and herbs finale. Slow-cooked pot roast enriched with junipers, or a rare cut of prime rib with horseradish cream would be ideal pairings with this beautiful Bordeaux-esque blend.
We can’t emphasize the Vandendriessche factor enough. Just impressive as that last name, his resume overflows with top wineries around the globe, along with tutelage and collaborations with visionaries such as John Kongsgaard and David Ramey. Modeled after a Right Bank garagiste with the dominance of breathtaking Cabernet Franc, this wine is all too classy for the little cost we were able to get it down to, just for our Operatives, just for a day. Catch not just two ravens but many birds with just one… umm, touch or click!
