Mission Codename Wild One
Peterson Winery is a family winery that has been delighting our Operatives for years. Consistently delicious and always a great value, it’s wines like today’s vineyard designate Sogno Vineyard Alexander Valley Zinfandel that keep us coming back for more. This Zin is a BIG boy - Quench your thirst with this powerful Sonoma fruit bomb.
Second generation winemaker Jamie Peterson is now at the helm, and his deep understanding and appreciation of the Dry Creek and Alexander Valley appellations shine through in the wine. They are always powerful, yet balanced, with ripe flavors that are indicative of a well-timed harvest. That can be a challenge in the northern Sonoma valleys where the days are hot, and things happen quickly in the vineyard. It’s no surprise that after 23 consecutive harvests, he’s learned a thing or two.
This Zin has remarkable consistency of color with a striking crimson hue and medium opacity from its core to the lip. The nose is extremely approachable, with delicious notes of dusty bramble, boysenberry, alfalfa, violets and plum. Juicy, lush and eminently quaffable, it bursts forth with ripe cherry, apricot, quince, black plum with a zesty spice backbone. Peterson always delivers with the full-bodied, aromatic and powerful Zinfandel that you crave. This is no exception. It may be time to light up that grill early. BBQ’d short ribs would be sublime with this big boy.
This marks the 11th year that Wine Spies has worked with Peterson Winery, making this one of the longest running relationships we have with our winery partners. Don’t miss out! See what all the fuss is about.
