Mission Codename Swept Away
FULL SEND! We’re fired up about this mammoth deal on a 95-point bruiser that will light up every synapse in your brain’s pleasure center. Heck, it might even for some new ones! A word of caution though - you must love flashy, hard-hitting Cabernet. And smoking good deals, too. You can spend A LOT more on high scoring Cab but they don’t get much better than this.
Many of you know Hundred Acre, the cult favorite, $400/bottle, almost-always-100-point Cabernet made by Jayson Woodbridge. Did you know his little brother Cameron also makes a badass wine in the same full throttle, all-or-nothing style? Cameron worked alongside his brother and Philippe Melka, who consulted for Hundred Acre at the time, starting in 2005. He honed his skills and broke out to make a similarly opulent, hedonistic high scoring Cabernet. But wait…there’s one BIG difference…The price. You can get eight of these for the price of one Hundred Acre.
Your body is not ready for this lavish, lush, extracted, and ultra-decadent beast. Dark as the eye of a tornado and just as strong, every sip sends you on a category 5 thrill ride. Only instead of getting floored by flying branches and upended street signs, you get caressed by mouthfuls of silky extracted black cherry, tilled earth, blackberry jam, cigar box, exotic spices, and layers of rich dark chocolate wafers. All carried on a wave of fine-grained sweet tannin. Utterly compelling!!
How many 95 pointers can you name under $50?? Or even under $100?? We can think of plenty in the $100-200+ range. If there’s a wine worth adding to your locker, just to experience, this would be the one. Only 264 cases were made. And we got barely enough to satiate all the thirsty cab lovers. What are you waiting for??
Here’s what the wine press has to say:
95 Points - Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“Composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 30 months in 30% new French oak plus an additional five months in bottle, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Northern Gale gives up notes of crushed blackcurrants, blackberries and black cherries with touches dark chocolate, licorice and earth. The palate is full, firm and concentrated with layers of vibrant fruit and great length. 264 cases produced.”
94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
“Lastly, the 2015 Northern Gale is all Cabernet Sauvignon raised in 30% new French oak. It’s another rock star wine from winemaker Cameron Woodbridge and offers a charming, forward style in its kirsch and black cherry fruits, cedarwood, spice, and lead pencil aromatics, silky tannins, and layered, mouthfilling texture. It can be drunk today with plenty of pleasure but will keep for 15-20 years as well.”
