Mission Codename Talent-i show
Wow!
Hard to top this morning’s SOLD OUT San Leonardo and Giodo… but we might just do it with another screaming good, double the 96, triple the 95 pointer ’15 Brunello at a world’s best 40% off. At this price, your only question should be “how many cases should I get??”
This GARGANTUAN Brunello deal comes from 100-point winemaking master Carlo Ferrini, the man behind Romitorio, Petrolo, Ricasoli, Brancaia, and both the San Leonardo and the unbelievable Giodo we just offered.
Vinous aptly points out that “The success of Talenti has most to do with their mix of tradition and technology.”
While we keep yelling it from the rooftops - 2015 was a vintage for the ages. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate notes “I remember the 2015 vintage in Tuscany through a photographer’s lens. Each snapshot I carry in my memory recalls the sheer perfection of the grapes… (taking) close-up pictures of the grapes, each cluster appeared more photogenic than the next. Ask anyone who farmed Sangiovese that year. They will tell you: Fruit has never been more beautiful than it was in the picture-perfect 2015 vintage.”
Now put those grapes in the hand of one of Italy’s most gifted forefathers. A figure Jancis Robinson called “one of the most celebrated of the winemaking consultants that have been so vital to the Italian wine scene – possibly the most famous.”
You don’t need a connoisseur’s lens to appreciate 2015 Brunello. No head-scratching or soul searching involved to appreciate their beauty. Simply put, they’re off-the-meter deliciousness is easily accessible. And this here is textbook Brunello, a shining example with plenty of red-fruited ripeness - fresh strawberries and cherries, dried rose petals, tobacco leaf, savory herbal notes, and of course all the lively acidity you can handle. Ferrini says “I don’t like extraction,” he says. “I like elegance, elegance, elegance.”
A wine of this caliber, from possibly the best-ever vintage… at the lowest price in the known universe?!
“This is a must-buy” urges Decanter and we could not have said it better. We implore you to make room for at least one bottle in your collection. Or six. Or twelve.
96 Points, Editor’s Choice – Wine Enthusiast
“Rose petal, crushed mint, woodland berry and eucalyptus aromas slowly take shape on this delicious full bodied red. It’s linear and elegantly structured, featuring juicy Marasca cherry, cranberry, licorice and cocoa alongside firm velvety tannins. It closes on an orange-zest note. Drink 2023-2035.”
96 Points – James Suckling
“There’s freshness galore here in the form of orange zest and citrus peel. But this Brunello isn’t short on power either; red licorice, cardamom and dried hibiscus pepper the nose. To support the ripe fruit are layers of sinewy tannins and gliding acidity, making for an altogether sophisticated and edgy impression. Refined and elegant on the long finish. Drink from 2023.”
95 Points – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous
“Bright vibrant red-ruby. Inviting aromas of red plum, mocha, redcurrant jam, tobacco, and gently smoky herbs. Bright, silky and suave, with mellow flavors of redcurrant, red plum, tobacco and mocha. Multilayered and extremely stylish wine, finishing with polished tannins, outstanding balance and subtle persistence. So well-balanced in fact, this gorgeous Brunello is almost deceptively easy to drink and can practically be accessed even now. Very well done. Drink 2023-2032.”
95 Points – Wine Spectator
“Well-delineated black cherry and black currant flavors are matched to graphite, earth and wild herb accents in this powerful red. Balanced in a broad-shouldered way, this leaves a vibrant impression on the lingering finish. 380 cases imported. Best from 2023 through 2042.”
95 Points – Decanter
“Talenti’s Brunello is assembled from five different vineyards between Sant’Angelo in Colle and Castelnuovo dell’Abate. With varying soils, they also range in altitude from 250 to 400 metres. The lower sites develop higher alcohol and sweeter, riper fruit whereas the higher plots impart more acidity and fresh fruit. This is a delectable panoramic of 2015, bursting with evocative scents of chopped herbs, orange oil and forest berries. On the palate strawberry and raspberry are delicately laced with vanilla. Bright, juicy acidity keeps this light on its feet, while powdery tannins cleanse the mouth. Absolutely moreish, and for value for money, this is a must-buy. Drink 2020-2030.”
