Mission Briefing

Eye of the Tiger

Come again??? Rubbin’ me eyes and looking closer. 96 points and 25 bucks? No way Jose! Well, yes way, as the Aussies CAN overdeliver, big time.

Put this stunner in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and it would not be out of place. It smells and tastes like some of the top luxury cuvées from the crown jewel of the Southern Rhône. Heck James Suckling puts this PAR with the likes of Clos du Caillou’s 2016 La Réserve or Janasse’s 2016 Vieilles Vignes flagship bottlings that command 5 to 10 times more money. UNREAL.

And what’s up with that “Survivor Vine” on the label? It’s the, Eye of the Tiger, it’s the thrill of the fight, or what? A fighter it sure is, BORN IN 1848. Yeah, that’s like BEFORE the Gold Rush and the Civil War and all. Taste and believe in the power of really, really old and wise vines…

96 Points – James Suckling

“A concentrated and deeply flavorsome Grenache from the sandy Vine Vale soils, this has attractive spicy red and purple berry fruits with some gently stony, almost flinty edges and hints of wild roasting herbs. The palate’s beautifully fresh and lithe, really nicely honed in terms of tannin, and vibrant and succulent. Red-plum and dark-cherry flavors snap fresh through the finish. Superb wine. Drink now and for 10+ years.”
