Mission Codename Thrice lyon
“Tyger Tyger, burning bright, In the forests of the night; What immortal hand or eye, could frame thy fearful symmetry?” – William Blake
No one knows exactly what he was talking about in that famous poem (aside from Blake, and he isn’t talking.)
But we might have found a contender, because Blake could easily have been describing this wildly tasty Santa Clara red from Twice Tyger. At 60% off, this $22 Cab blend eats up the competition and leaves not a trace of scraps behind. Simply delicious stuff that drinks way, WAY above our price point today.
And when we say, “wildly tasty”, we mean it, as both tasty and wild. When former medical devices entrepreneur Billoo Rataul picked this spot on the west side of Morgan Hill in the Santa Clara Valley. Minimal to kick off his low-intervention, regeneratively farmed estate, he picked a wild spot, indeed. While technically located not too far from the Bay Area, their hillside vineyards are most certainly remote. Twice Tyger describes their most frequent visitors as “deer, hawks, coyotes, and the occasional mountain lion.” I’m sure he’s not lion! 😁
Based on our tasting of this spicy, bold, succulent, and flavor-packed red blend, we’re going to call it now and predict that those visitors will start including in-the-know wine buffs with a penchant for experiencing something different and new. And when we say new, we also mean it—Twice Tyger is so new that their tasting room pavilion won’t even be open until 2026.
Let’s not confuse new with inexperienced, though. Rataul has spared no expense with Twice Tyger, and he’s tapped Bobby Graviano for winemaking duties. Graviano is the kind of sleeper pick that somehow makes it to the fifth round of the draft but could easily wind up in the Hall of Fame someday. Formerly with 11th-generation Central Coast star Nicholson Vineyards, Graviano really earned a name by earning multiple Chronicle Wine Competition Golds while crafting Bargetto wines in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
At our price this is the perfect opportunity to get in on the ground floor of an up-and-coming, small-production outfit that’s poised to pounce on the fine wine world!
