Mission Codename Throwback

Some of us remember a time, a seemingly distant memory… a by-gone era when you could still get a gallon of gas for $1.15, a dozen eggs for $1…

And a stunning bottle of Napa Cabernet for UNDER $30.

Today, at a stunning 70% OFF, the good old days are here again!

This beauty is OLD-SCHOOL in all the best ways. No marketing, no fancy tasting room, no fluff. Seriously, their owner/winemaker even lists his phone number on their website! Just a small producer, making great wine from a great site.

Pop a bottle and this charmingly retro style overflows – laden with ripe blackberries, violets, morello cherries, sweet spice, mocha, tobacco, and tilled earth. Dusty tannins frame all the complexity beautifully, with plenty of freshness and lift underlying its medium-full body. Agent Noir, perhaps our toughest critic, remarked, “Finally, some REAL wine, gorgeous thru and thru.”

Voces is made by Fernando Candelario and his son from the Frediani Vineyard in Calistoga. Not a household name, but he’s been on our radar for a LOOOONG time. And we last worked with Voces back in 2010. And sold-out, by the way… same wine, for essentially the same price!

We weren’t joking about stepping back in time.

Fernando got his start at Robert Mondavi Winery, working in the cellar for eight years. But it was San Francisco Chronicle Winemaker of the Year, Greg Brown, that took him under his wing at T-Vine Cellars. He taught Fernado the art and science of making fine wine, growing the brand into a local sensation. Fernando still credits Brown as his maestro, and you’ll not a special thanks to him on the back label. Brown passed tragically in 2011, but Fernando carries on, making great wine and passing his knowledge on to his son.

We all know great wine comes from great fruit. The Frediani family has been growing grapes since 1898, their oldest vines dating back to 1935. Fruit off this vineyard is coveted by Ridge, Acre, B Cellars, and Venge. His long history with the vineyard dating back to his days at T-Vine, Fernando gets some of their best Cabernet available – the vineyard’s rocky gravel soil and warm climate promoting concentration and ripeness easily discernable on the palate.

We should point out that, at the full $90 price, this wine is still less than other winery’s SV bottlings of Frediani Cabernet, and well in line with inflation-adjusted pricing of what Napa Cab should cost. It’s a fair price, and the wine is worth every penny.

Today? Let’s take a step back in time and load up a few cases!

UNDER $30! This throwback won’t last.
