Mission Codename G-Wizz
A few reasons why you should NOT order this:
1. You think mountain-grown, single-vineyard, Atlas Peak Cabernet tastes the same as your average “California” designated Cab from brands that rhyme with shallow.
2. You’ll feel embarrassed pouring a baller wine that didn’t cost $200+.
3. You’d rather spend your $59 on three 30-packs of Coors Light.
If those reasons make zero sense, then you should definitely jump on this pronto! At 95-points and under $60 this is already a KILLER deal on single vineyard mountain Cabernet. But consider this – It was just released, and the last two vintages…
Both scored 99-points!
As the scores roll in, you’re gonna be glad you grabbed this big, rock and roller, coat your molars, stain your shirt, wide-load-coming-through type Cabernet early!
We’ve been bullish on Guarachi for years. If you know the wine, then you’re as excited as we are.
Founded in 2007 by successful Chilean importer, Alex Guarachi, his founding winemaker was none other than the legendary Paul Hobbs. In 2016, the winery switched gears, investing in estate vineyards. It was then that he passed the torch to a young winemaking Jedi named Julian Gonzalez. A protégé of Hobbs with unmatched experience, he served as the head winemaker for Hobbs’ consulting firm, as well as at legendary Napa institutions such as Dominus, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, and Louis M. Martini.
Oh, and their Meadowrock Vineyard? It’s one of our absolute favorites on Atlas Peak! Just about thirty high-altitude acres facing the Foss Valley, with volcanic soils that give plenty of structure to its Cabernet, with the plenty of sunlight yielding black and blue fruit richness, especially in a great vintage like 2023. (seriously, Agent Rôtie has made Cabernet from there, and will talk your ear off if you let him!)
This is a serious, brooding effort not for the faint of heart. It drips with blackberry, blueberry, and currant while oozing complex richness of olive tapenade, wild herbs, espresso, and dusty mineral. It’s super firm, full-bodied, and a STEAL at the full retail, much less for UNDER $60!
It’s crazy good now but will cellar for years! If you need something to drink in the meantime, check out the other crazy deal on their 2021 ‘G’ Cab Blend, while it lasts.
Not much else to say here, other than please move quickly. And not much of this one to go around!
95 Points – James Suckling “Deep, dark and intense with aromas of black currants, graphite, earth, black olives, dried herbs and coffee beans. The full-bodied palate is tightly wound with fine-grained yet firm tannins and balanced acidity. Poised, structured and taut. Drinkable now but best from 2030.”
