Mission Codename Do the math

“In a word: superb. – Vinous

Here’s the ultimate Right Bank Revelation! From an under-the-radar producer making some truly kickass wines.

But first, does the number 374 mean anything to you?

Not the seconds it took us to drain the bottle. Or the number of bottles we have to sell. THE COMBINED SCORES!

2 x 94 POINTS Vinous and Decanter plus 2 x 93s from Wine Enthusiast and James Suckling.

Basically, near impossible to find in the States and utterly compelling at our price after more than 50% OFF.

This exceptional red hails from an overlooked 2019 vintage that’s quickly gaining steam in terms of deals and quality. And we got the hook-up. The pandemic put the remarkable 2019 vintage on pause, as press and tastemakers couldn’t easily get their hands on barrel samples and bottles. This worked in your favor because today, many of these wines are more affordable than ever…

Maybe one reason this wine is so good is because Thierry Valette is behind this. His family owns Château Troplong Mondot and previously, Château Pavie. He acquired the property in 2005 and immediately set to work getting it to 100% biodynamic farming and elevating the overall quality.

This is a Pomerol-styled blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cab Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Biodynamic. Blended in concrete tanks, and then aged in ⅓ barrels, ⅓ demi-muids and ⅓ jars it shows amazing purity and freshness while preserving minerality and exceptional terroir of old vines planted in limestone-rich vineyards. Soaring stone-driven fruits come alive with fresh boysenberry, red currant, purple plums, and black licorice. Juicy, vibrant, mouthwatering. An absolute joy to drink.

Even more joyous when you pay SO MUCH LESS than anyone else!

94 Points – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous

“The 2019 Clos Puy Arnaud is dazzling. Rich, inky and wonderfully deep, the 2019 has so much to offer. I can’t remember a recent Clos Puy Arnaud with this much density and sheer textural intensity. Inky dark fruit, crème de cassis, violets and licorice all build as this sumptuous, exotically rich Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux shows off its personality. Plush and beautifully layered, with soft contours and silky tannins. Fabulous, just as it was in barrel. What a wine! In a word: superb. Drink 2025-2039.”

94 Points – Decanter

“A bright and expressive wine bursting with freshly picked red berries - raspberries and strawberries with touches of black cherry. Beautifully silky smooth texture which glides across the tongue - there is so much energy and life to this. A little bit of heat is felt on the finish - touching on cedar and clove spice which adds a piquance and a touch of austerity but it’s nicely balanced by the juicy mineral-edged fruit flavours. Just give this a few more years. A very charming and easy-to-enjoy wine with structure, length and lots to enjoy. A top name to know in Castillon. Drink 2023-2040.”

93 Points, Cellar Selection – Wine Enthusiast

“Owned by the Valette family from Saint-Émilion, this is one of the star wines in Castillon. Along with a powerful structure and density, it has richness. Full of direct blackberry fruits and balanced acidity, the wine has great potential. Organic and biodynamic. Drink from 2024.”

93 Points – James Suckling

“Mulberries, praline, dried flowers, clay and bark on the nose. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Round and creamy with harmonious, fruity character and a silky texture. Pure and delicious. So vibrant. 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Ssauvignon. From organically grown grapes. Delicious already, but better from 2024.”
