Mission Codename Scar!
Everyone hunting for spectacular Napa juice, here’s the answer. Perhaps the single best answer of the year so far, to be honest.
Silky, sweetly fruited, hedonistic, and made by a rockstar winemaker who has a whopping 33 100pt wines under his belt – at a price that seems like a rounding error compared to his other wines.
The McGah Vineyard, is smack in the middle of Rutherford, surrounded by the likes of Caymus, Beckstoffer Georges III, and other iconic properties. They’ve been selling their fruit to only the best Napa winemakers for years, garnering 100 points from Bobby P when famed winemaker Russel Bevan got a hold of some. Let’s just say the price shot WAY up after that!
Soon after, another 100pt winemaker, Mike Smith took over their estate brand Scarlett Wines. You may know him from his own Myriad label or Maybach, Carter, PerChance, Becklyn, Rivers Marie… and others. He’s racked up a lengthy string of high scores as we already mentioned, and a cult like following. His wines promise a fleshy, ripe, polished style that’s impossible to resist. As you’ll soon find out if you score some of this!
BUT. His wines come with one other thing - steep prices. If you can get an allocation, you’ll pay hundreds of dollars for any of the above.
Luckily, we’re not dealing with secondary markets today, or allocations, or triple digit prices.
You’re getting some insider trading type info on their Petite Sirah, which shows much the same flashy style as those other wines. It’s broad like the 405 and just as packed during rush hour. It overdelivers HUGELY at this price. DEEP and round in style, with blackberry jam, dark chocolate, blueberry pie, black licorice, sweet baking spices, black plum, and smooth, sweet tannins that carry into a lonnnng finish.
For $28 you’ll be hard pressed to find anything with this level of complexity and sheer opulence. Very, very little of this one so stake your claim ASAP!
