Mission Codename Kafkaesque
Metamorphosis?! Correct, this wine is transformative! It will change any casual Napa Cab drinker into a full-blown devotee.
And you can afford the journey, trust us! You barely ever see this wine outside of their private tastings, let alone online. And hardy EVER for a discount like this one.
Founded by Gary and Pam Jaffe, Jaffe Estate wines are known to be some of the best of the best of Napa Valley. For many years, they provided the fruit for Cathy Corison as well as some outstanding secret projects. The property sits just below the town of St. Helena in the historic heart of Napa.
Their starting winemaker was the venerable David DeSante, and today it’s Philip Titus who oversees the wines, with a helping hand for the day to day from Charles McKahn. In the interim though it was another veteran, Mitch Cosentino who put these 2019s together. Talk about a hall of fame of talent!
Their neighbors are some of the oldest, and still the best, in the Napa Valley wine scene; Spottswoode, Louis Martini, BV, and Inglenook. It was the area where many wine pioneers laid their claim for good reason. The distance from San Pablo Bay means early fog burn off and sunny days for the grapes. This in turn means ripe fruit and bold expression of varietal.
And that’s exactly what this is. Bold and energetic! Enjoy dark black currant, cedar, Bing cherry and fresh ground coffee on the nose. You could crawl into the glass yet probably still not be able to pick out all the complexity here. On the palate, add blackberries, plums, tobacco, black pepper, and spices. Lush tannins and zippy acidity wrap up this perfectly balanced package.
Being a 2019 helps of course, per Decanter “California’s premier Cabernet Sauvignon region has delivered a beautifully classic vintage in 2019, showcasing balance, energy and tension… The resulting Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant wines are fresh and vivid, with intense black fruits, savoriness and concentration… they exude upfront drinking pleasure but also have impeccable structure for long-term cellaring.”
Another opinion? David Thompson of the Napa Wine Project raves that it “offers sweet dessert spices including caramel and toffee, sweet tobacco spice, espresso with fruit showing as dark raspberry and Santa Rosa plum, cherry and boysenberry. The red-fruited palate sports flavors of red cherry, plum, currant and cranberry. Well-layered in terms of texture and flavor but with a simultaneous restraint. The tannins are grainy, granular and exhibit a firm and long lasting grip which extends beyond the fruit on the finish. Lingers with a kiss of dried tobacco leaf and a dusty character. A savory showing. Pair with Texas style BBQ brisket.”
Mmm, you know we’re trying that with a few we stashed away already.
This is a Napa Cab lover’s dream. At OVER HALF OFF! And there is a minuscule amount so get on this one quick…
