Vin de Manies
2004 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
California: Napa Valley
Hokus Pokus Opus Who?
Every great once in a while we find a gem that has been hiding out in a winemaker’s cellar - sometimes for years. It is our great thrill, today, to present you with one such gem. Opus One alum, Daniel Manies, held back today’s wine in order to age it to perfection. His 2005, which we featured earlier this year, was released nearly a year earlier than today’s wonderful, aged-to-perfection 2004.
This no longer incognito wine is ready for your glass, dear Operative. Barrel and bottle age have allowed the refinement and complexity of this wine to really develop over time. A wine like this is a rare find in today’s wine world and we know that it will give you as much pleasure as it has us.
Today’s gem of a wine delivers the sort of pleasure that only comes with age!
Richly colored and deep in appearance, with dark ruby hues and lighter-colored edges, indicating many years in barrel and bottle.
Very complex on the nose, with elements of blackberry, black cherry, black tea leaves, pomegranate and toasty oak. As the wine opens, it reveals hints of spice and black pepper.
A very elegant style with concentrated fruit flavors of blackberry, plum, ripe cherry and earth. Subtle oak flavors round out the wine, providing a soft but structured style.
Enough tannin to provide a strong backbone for the rich fruit flavors, which coat your mouth and prolong the elegance feel, long into the extended, delicate finish.
