Mission Briefing

Codename:

Sorry, Silver Oak!

Great wines practically fly through our Sonoma County headquarters. We diligently scrutinize every wine that we’re offered, in order to bring you only the very best. Often, it is smaller, lesser-known wineries that take our tasting panel by surprise. These hidden-gems are some of the finest wines that we showcase.

Today’s 93 point (Master Sommelier Catherine Fallis) William Gordon Winery 2009 Alexander Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon turned out to be an extraordinary wine that we are simply crazy about. It is no wonder, as the grapes in today’s wine share a vineyard source with the likes of the widely sought-after, luxury-priced Silver Oak Winery, whose Cabernet Sauvignon fetches $75 or more. Jordan and Geyser Peak also make their top-tier wines from the same vineyard source.

You, dear Operative, are very lucky! For less than $30, you can enjoy what we feel is an even better wine than the high-priced Silver Oak. Be sure to stock up on this delicious and very impressive Ultra QPR (Quality to Price Ratio) wine.

Tasting Profile

Look:

Deepest, darkest crimson through and through, with just a hint of a translucent core. A beautiful red rim encircles the edge of the glass.

Smell:

Wonderfully balanced, with sweet plum and blackberry laid overtop sweet tobacco, freshly picked mushroom, eucalyptus, cassis, nutmeg, clove, and black peppercorn.

Taste:

Beautiful and lush on the palate, with fruit and earth given equal footing. Sweet plum and blackberry mingle with sweet tobacco leaf, well aged leather, sandalwood, baking spices, and a touch of floral notes.

Finish:

Complex, hearty, and well structured, the long and lasting finish has just the right amount of tannin and acidity.

Pairing:

A pepper-encrusted steak, perfectly seared, served with rosemary and garlic herb butter.
