Mission Codename Simply Ribbiting
This excellent entry from Blue Frog Winery brought our tasting panel to its feet! This 100% Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine that inspires conversation… With a crazy amount fruit on the nose, richly layered texture and flavor on the palate - You’ll be on the edge of your seat the entire time. We have a limited allocation of this wine, so jump on it!
There are a LOT of wineries that make outstanding (and predictable) Cabernet Sauvignon from the Napa Valley’s world-renowned grapes. Every once in a while, there is one that when you stick your nose in the glass and inhale, it makes you pause and say, “Oh, that’s interesting.” That can be one of the most enjoyable moments in drinking wine. I certainly had one of those moments tasting this one, with its atypical fruit notes on the nose such as melon.
This Napa Cab is a dark ruby that is slightly translucent with consistent color from edge to edge. The wine has wonderful, juicy aromatics that greet you with a burst of strawberry, honeydew and rose, with an undercurrent of straw and raspberry. Despite the unconventional nose, the palate reveals a much more traditional Cabernet Sauvignon with layered flavors of mocha, tobacco, plum compote, spice, vanilla and black fruit. While the tannins are slightly chewy, the overall body is well balanced and soft with an elegant finish that lingers on the back of the upper palate. Great for the last chilly months of the year. Pair this with a hearty lamb stew before spring arrives (or after!).
